Plans we take

Insurance we accept

RNX Dental accepts most dental insurance plans, including most PPOs. The easiest way to be sure is to call us at (703) 420-5250 with your plan name and member ID. We’ll confirm your coverage and explain it in plain English.

We work with many popular plans, including Aetna, Cigna, Delta Dental, GEHA, Guardian, MetLife and UnitedHealthcare.

The basics

How dental insurance usually works

Dental insurance is different from medical insurance, and it can be confusing. Most plans have three things in common:

01
An annual maximum.

This is the most your plan will pay in a year. Once you reach it, you pay the rest until the plan resets, often in January.

02
A deductible.

A set amount you pay before your plan starts covering certain treatments. Preventive care is often exempt.

03
Coverage levels.

Plans typically pay a higher percentage for preventive care, a middle percentage for basic care like fillings, and a lower percentage for major care like crowns.

Every plan is different, so we’ll look at yours and tell you exactly what to expect.

Coverage

What insurance usually covers

01

Preventive care such as exams, cleanings and X-rays is usually covered well, often at little or no cost to you.

02

Basic restorative care like fillings and simple extractions is usually partly covered.

03

Major restorative care like crowns, root canals, bridges and sometimes implants is usually partly covered at a lower percentage.

04

Emergency care to relieve pain is usually partly covered.

05

Cosmetic care like whitening and purely cosmetic bonding usually isn’t covered. Some plans with orthodontic benefits help with Invisalign®.

Smart tips

Getting the most from your benefits

No insurance

No insurance? No problem

Plenty of our patients don’t have dental insurance. We’ll give you a clear price for your visit and any treatment before we start, and we’ll help you decide what to do first if there’s more than one thing to take care of.

Paying for your care

We accept all major credit cards. If you need more extensive treatment, we’ll lay out the full cost up front and help you plan it in stages if that’s easier on your budget.

We handle the paperwork

We file insurance claims on your behalf, so you only pay your estimated share at your visit. If your insurer needs more information, we’ll deal with it directly.

A quick example

Say your plan covers preventive care at 100%, basic care at 80% and major care at 50%, with a $1,500 annual maximum. Your two cleanings would likely cost you nothing. A filling would be mostly covered. A crown would be about half covered, up to your annual limit. Your actual plan may be different, which is why we check it for you before treatment.

Using an HSA or FSA

Health savings accounts (HSAs) and flexible spending accounts (FSAs) can generally be used for dental care like cleanings, fillings, crowns and implants. Purely cosmetic treatments usually don’t qualify. FSA funds often expire at the end of the year, so if you have money left, it’s a good time to schedule care. Check your plan’s rules to be sure.
