We always try to save a tooth first. But when a tooth is too damaged, infected or crowded to keep, a gentle extraction is the healthiest choice. Dr. Ghorab is trained in complex extractions, so most cases can be handled right here, without a referral.

A simple extraction removes a tooth that’s fully visible above the gum. We loosen it gently and lift it out.
A complex extraction is needed when a tooth is broken at the gumline, has curved roots, or hasn’t fully come in, like many wisdom teeth. It may involve a small opening in the gum or dividing the tooth into sections so it comes out gently. Dr. Ghorab’s training in complex extractions means these cases can usually be done in our office.
The area is fully numbed before we begin, so you’ll feel pressure but not pain. We explain each step as we go, and you can raise your hand for a break at any time.
A missing tooth can let neighboring teeth drift, change your bite and lead to bone loss in the jaw. Before your extraction, we’ll talk through replacement options, like a dental implant or a bridge, so you have a plan. In some cases, we can prepare the site for an implant at the time of extraction.
Wisdom teeth usually come in between ages 17 and 25. Many people don’t have room for them, so they come in crooked, only partly break through the gum, or stay trapped in the jaw. That can cause pain, swelling, infection, cavities in nearby teeth and crowding. We’ll check your wisdom teeth on X-rays and tell you honestly whether they need to come out now, can be watched, or are fine where they are.
A simple extraction usually costs less than a complex or surgical one. Most insurance plans cover part of the cost. We’ll give you a written estimate before your appointment, including any replacement you choose.
Your natural teeth are worth saving whenever possible. Before recommending an extraction, we’ll look at whether a filling, crown or root canal could keep the tooth. If extraction really is the best choice, we’ll explain why.
See dental implants and bridges for replacement options, or root canal treatment if the tooth might be saved.
Dr. Ghorab’s training in complex extractions means teeth that are broken, curved or partly hidden can usually be removed gently here, without sending you to another office. Just as important, we plan the next step with you before the tooth comes out, so you’re never left wondering what happens to the gap.

Most people feel back to normal within a few days. Complex or wisdom tooth extractions can take a little longer.
